KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 — Kelantan is expected to announce the dissolution date of its state legislative assembly later this week, Astro Awani reported today.

The announcement is expected to be made after the state government’s weekly executive council (exco) meeting on Wednesday, state Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob told the news portal.

“God willing, we will wait for the exco meeting this week,” he was quoted as saying.

The news portal also reported state Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah calling for patience.

“Regarding the dissolution, the menteri besar will announce it. He will announce the date this week. Just wait,” Mohd Amar was quoted as saying.

The Kelantan legislative assembly consists of 45 seats with Umno holding seven, Bersatu one, and the remainder PAS.

Apart from Kelantan, five other states must hold elections this year. They are: Kedah and Terengganu, which are also under PAS rule; and Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Penang, which are under Pakatan Harapan rule.

Penang has announced that it is seeking a June 28 dissolution for its state assembly while Negeri Sembilan is eyeing June 30.
