Police have called for calm and assured the public that all is well, amid rising political tensions with the government at odds with the monarchy.

"Police would like to assure that national security and public order is under control.

"The public should not worry because police will ensure security remains under control while (we are) increasing monitoring to ensure public wellbeing," said Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani in a statement today.

He urged the public to continue observing all Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

The political mercury shot up yesterday after Istana Negara rebuked de facto Law Minister Takiyuddin Hassan for misleading Parliament by saying that emergency ordinances had been revoked.

The king, in a statement, said Takiyuddin and Attorney-General Idrus Harun had also not fulfilled their assurance that the revocation of emergency ordinances would be debated in the Dewan Rakyat.

In response, the Prime Minister's Office defended the government's decision, claiming that the government had already advised the king to annul the ordinances even before Parliament convened.

The PMO added that the Agong must act in accordance with the prime minister's advice under Article 40(1) of the Federal Constitution.

Meanwhile, a protest against the government at Dataran Merdeka is scheduled for tomorrow morning.

The #Lawan protest, organised by Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat, calls for the resignation of Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
