GOMBAK, July 11 — Caretaker Kedah menteri besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has hit out at Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari for accusing the former of making a false claim of building an RM40 billion worth port in Langkawi.

Sanusi said that the project in question is a private port project called “Widad Langkasuka”, which is a development project on a plot of land that the state government seized from a tycoon.

“It’s not the port but another project. The leaders of our country are not careful. He just wants to attack people without validating what project we submitted,” he said at a hi-tea event today.

Sanusi said that the Widad Langkasuka project has already been approved by the state government and that it is a major development project that will include industrial areas, commercial areas, universities, hospitals, hotels, and tourism centres.

"The company has presented the proposal and showed us the video and it looks amazing," he said.

Sanusi said that he is disappointed that Adly would make such a false claim, especially since he is a deputy minister in the government.

"How can the deputy minister of defence who should not make a mistake make such a mistake?” he asked.

"I hope he will apologise to the people of Kedah and to me. He should be more careful in the future," Sanusi said.

Widad Langkasuka is a new urban area in Langkawi Malaysia. The project by Widad Group Berhad involves constructing 1000 acres of artificial islands in the bay next to Langkawi International Airport.

The project will form an eagle-shaped landmass (the white-crested eagle being the symbol of Langkawi) comprising nine zones. The islands will be linked to each other by internal roads, a monorail, and a pedestrian walkway.
