Katy Perry was all prepared for launch, as private firm SpaceX prepared to send two NASA astronauts into space from a centre in Florida.

The event would have marked the first time in nine years that American astronauts have launched from US soil, and the first-ever launch from a privately owned spacecraft, masterminded by entrepreneur Elon Musk.

However, the Wednesday lift-off had to be abandoned due to bad weather.

Perry, 35, was part of a star-studded line-up celebrating the mission in a remote live event broadcast on the Discovery and Science Channels, titled Space Launch Live: America Returns to Space.

An estimated 1.7 million people from around the world tuned in to watch take-off from The Kennedy Space Centre in Florida on Wednesday.

Unfortunately, things didn't go to plan and lift-off will be attempted on Saturday.

Perry, who announced her pregnancy in a music video in March, posted pictures to Instagram from her remote set, writing: “Welp. Today’s #SpaceLaunchLive was BUMPED due to weather, but what’s two days when @spacex has been waiting for 18 years... Let’s pray it’s in the cards for Saturday!”

She added: “Set your alarm for the 3:22pm EDT launch, and don’t miss the pregame with me on @Discovery and @ScienceChannel for a historical moment in space travel.”

In the picture, she was dressed in a silver space-themed dress, with her arm around her ever-growing baby bump.

Perry, 35, is expecting her first child, a daughter, with fiancé Orlando Bloom, 43.

Perry and the actor have been dating since 2016 and became engaged on Valentine's Day in 2018.

The singer has always had an affiliation with the all things Space, saying in the livestream: “I'm such a huge fan of the space program, huge fan of NASA, huge fan of SpaceX and huge fan of Elon [Musk, CEO of SpaceX].

"I've been a fan of just the idea of travelling to space just for over a decade.”
