Katy Perry says she had set 2 requirements for the perfect man. Orlando Bloom checked both boxes.
Before meeting Orlando Bloom, Katy Perry wrote down exactly what she wanted in a man.
She wanted to meet someone adventurous and "spiritually curious."
The benefits of setting intentions go beyond finding a partner — it can help with your career, too.
Did Katy Perry manifest her relationship with Orlando Bloom?
Speaking with Apple Music's Zane Lowe to discuss her latest album, "143," the 39-year-old pop singer said she met her fiancé after being stuck in a "bad continuing loop."
"I was like, I'm going to go swim in a different pond. I want to try something else. I'm going to say yes to something I wouldn't normally say yes to," the "Woman's World" singer said.
But before seeing "what's out there in the world," she decided to set her intentions.
"I'm going to set so many intentions on this full moon. I'm going to write out exactly what I want; I'm going to wear a rose-quartz dress to track the love that I want," she said.
She wrote down two specific requirements: someone who could meet her in the "adventure department" — "'cause I love adventure," she said — and who was as "spiritually curious" as her.
Perry ended up meeting Orlando Bloom at the 2016 Golden Globes after-party. The pair got engaged on Valentine's Day in 2019 and announced the birth of their baby, Daisy Dove Bloom, in August 2020.
As it turned out, Bloom checked both boxes. "I mean, we just jumped out of a helicopter together," she told Lowe.
Perry said she found out about Bloom's spiritual curiosity after spending time with him. "You know, there's no hiding. It's a seven-day-a-week relationship, not just a Friday, Saturday, Sunday relationship — those are easy," she said.
Having a child together has also revealed new challenges. "Life is not peachy-keen jelly bean," Perry said, adding, "I get to see who he is in those challenging moments, and it's why I chose him."
Setting intentions for success
Perry isn't the only celebrity who has set intentions for success.
Oprah Winfrey said at a Qualtrics user conference in 2019 that she sets an intention before every show. "Whatever you end up with is what you started with as an intention," she said. "Getting that principal changed the trajectory of my entire life."
The award-winning talk-show host has continued to set an intention for everything she does, even if it's just decorating a room. "It comes back to you tenfold, one-hundredfold, in ways you cannot even imagine," she said.
Being intentional could also help your career.
"It's important to set goals because if you don't, it's like trying to get somewhere without putting directions into a GPS," the career coach Chelsea Stokes previously told Business Insider.
But it's no use setting goals just because you think you should or because you're comparing yourself to someone else, she said. It's important to set goals with intention and to think about how they could change your life and affect the people around you.
"This can not only help you set more specific goals for yourself, but it'll also help to keep you motivated throughout the year," she said.
A representative for Perry did not immediately respond to a request for comment from BI sent outside regular business hours.
