Katy Perry has said that she has not commented on sexual harassment allegations made against her because she does not want to “distract from the real movement.”

In 2019, model Josh Kloss claimed that the singer, 35, pulled his trousers down and exposed his genitals at a party in 2012.

Tina Kandelaki, a Georgian TV host, later claimed that Perry had inappropriately touched her and tried to kiss her without her consent at an industry party.

Perry did not comment on the allegations at the time and in a new interview with The Guardian claimed that she remained silent as she did not want to “add to the noise.”

“I think we live in a world where anyone can say anything,” she told the paper.

“I don’t want to say ‘guilty until proven innocent’ but there’s no checks and balances: a headline just flies, right? And there’s no investigation of what it is.”

She added that she did not address the claims as she didn’t want to distract from the #MeToo movement.

“I don’t want to add to the noise. I want to add to the truth, basically,” she said.

“I don’t comment on all the things that are said about me because if I chase that dragon, it would be about true and false-ing my whole life. It’s distracting from the real movement.”

The interview also saw Perry, who has previously been criticised for appropriating aspects of other cultures in her music videos and promotional materials, touch on the subject of so-called cancel culture.

“If you’re gonna get into this business and if you’re gonna have anything to say, not everyone is gonna agree,” she said.

“It’s OK to say you weren’t as evolved as a human five years ago than you are now.”
