Kate Garraway has told fans and wellwishers that her husband’s recovery from coronavirus is a “waiting game” as he remains in hospital.

Derek Draper’s treatment for Covid-19 began back in March and saw him placed into a coma in a bid to help his body heal.

He has since come out of the coma but faces a huge health battle after the severe damage the virus caused to his whole body.

Garraway, 53, recently returned to Good Morning Britain in a bid to make her family’s life feel more normal.

Speaking during today’s episode, she explained why she hasn’t been sharing daily updates on Draper’s health while presenting the show.

"I know everyone has been so lovely and are concerned, but then you don't want to talk about it on GMB every time because it's not cheering up everyone,” she said.

"Then last week we were having fun and games and I was laughing but he is in a minimal conscious state.”

“He has challenges with his food with and with his lungs, and it's a waiting game really,” she continued. "I'm lucky I've got the chance to wait and he's still with us and lots of people don't have that."

Garraway is presenting alongside guest host Adil Ray this week as Ben Shephard takes an extended break to film new episodes of quiz show Tipping Point.

Regular hosts Susanna Reid and Piers Morgan are currently enjoying their summer break.
