Kate Garraway has enjoyed her first night since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, admitting it felt "strange" to leave husband Derek Draper at home.

The Good Morning Britain presenter and her family attended the opening night of Wonderville magic show at the Palace Theatre in London's West End.

Draper is recovering from brain inflammation after battling COVID-19 and its long-term effects.

Garraway, 54, told the MailOnline: "It's our first time out since February 2020 so we are really excited, and this is a date that has sprung up because it was going to happen a few weeks ago and then it didn't happen and then we just thought, 'Let's go for it' – so very exciting.'"

When asked about Derek's condition she said: "It was very strange leaving him tonight to come out because he is a big fan of magic, but it is not possible at the moment so we just said next time and see him when we get back."

Draper returned home in April after spending a year in hospital.

He contracted coronavirus in March 2020 and was placed in a medically induced coma while he underwent treatment.

Draper then failed to regain full consciousness and is currently going undergoing rehabilitation and requires round-the-clock care

Garraway married the political lobbyist in 2005 and they have two children Darcey, 16, and Billy, 12.

Earlier this month the former I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! contestant revealed her London home had been flooded following the heavy rainfall.

Garraway, who converted the ground floor of her house to enable Draper to return home from hospital, said: "We live on a hill. So you come in the door at one level, and then you go down some steps to the back garden.
