Karl-Anthony Towns to miss Tuesday's game due to on one-year anniversary of mother's death
Minnesota Timberwolves big man Karl-Anthony Towns prioritized being with his family Tuesday and did not play against the Brooklyn Nets due to the one-year anniversary of his mother's death, according to Malika Andrews of ESPN.
Towns' mother, Jacqueline, tested positive for COVID-19 last March and was placed in a medically induced coma due to lung issues caused by the virus. Towns released a video last March sharing his mother's story, and urging everyone to take COVID-19 seriously.
Jacqueline Towns died April 13, 2020.

Towns' mother died as the NBA was on hiatus after Utah Jazz big man Rudy Gobert tested positive in March. When the NBA launched its Orlando bubble in July, the Timberwolves did not take part due to a poor record.
Karl-Anthony Towns hurting after mother's death
Towns addressed his mother's death in December. Towns said his "soul has been killed off" as a result of his mother's death. Towns also revealed he lost seven family members to COVID-19 in 2020.
In January, Towns revealed he tested positive for COVID-19. He missed multiple games while isolating as a result of the virus. Towns was able to return in early February. In March, Towns got emotional when his father attended a game for the first time since Jacqueline's death.
The Timberwolves paid tribute to Jacqueline Towns on Sunday, leaving a seat open for her at Target Center.
