On his second Mother's Day since losing his mom to COVID-19, Karl-Anthony Towns shared an emotional public moment with father.

Prior to Sunday's tip against the Orlando Magic, the Minnesota Timberwolves center found his father Karl Sr. in the stands and shared a long embrace, appearing to break down in tears.

COVID-19 ravaged Towns' family

Towns revealed in March 2020 that his mother Jacqueline Towns was in a coma with COVID-19 at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. On April 13, she died. Towns later revealed that COVID-19 has devastated his family, claiming the lives of six other family members.

The Timberwolves All-Star has been vocal and open about his emotions in the wake of the family tragedy. He dedicated a game ball to his mother after the Timberwolves tipped off their season in December amid the deadly winter U.S. COVID-19 spike.

“You know what, I don’t even recognize most of my other games and years I’ve played and how I felt those days,” Towns told reporters on Dec. 23. “If I can be honest with y'all for a second, I mean, I don’t really recall or really care. I only understand what happened from April 13 on.

“Because you may see me smiling and stuff, but that Karl died on April 13. He’s never coming back. I don’t remember that man. You’re talking to the physical me, but my soul has been killed off a long ago."

On the April 13 anniversary of his mother's death, Towns missed a Timberwolves game to spend time with his family. On Sunday, the Mother's Day holiday served as a reminder of the toll COVID-19 took on his family.

Through it all, Towns has urged his fans to take COVID-19 seriously. He celebrated his first vaccine dose with his social media followers on April 6.
