Karena Lam awarded the Order of Arts and Letter

24 Jun – Taiwanese actress Karena Lam recently became the latest star to be awarded the insignia of Chevalier (Knight) dans l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government in recognition of her efforts in promoting French art over the years.

The actress, who currently resides in Hong Kong, appeared at the ceremony held at the Residence of France on 21 June, presided over by the Consul General of France, Mr Alexandre Giorgini. She was accompanied by her husband, director Steve Yuen and their two daughters.

Karena expressed, "The world has undergone great changes in the past two years, and many people's lives have undergone tremendous changes. Unfortunately, these are all bad changes. However, I believe that bad moments will pass, hopefully soon. In the future, art can start again, inspire our enthusiasm for life, and find the centre of life."

The actress admitted that she originally thought someone was playing pranks on her upon receiving the letter in April last year for her award.

"I read the letter many times and asked my husband if it was a scam. After confirming the news, I really felt surreal," she enthused.

Among others who have been honoured with the same insignia include Taiwanese filmmakers Sylvia Chang and Ang Lee and Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan.
