Kane reaches final transfer verdict as Tottenham make huge ‘up front’ demand to Man Utd
Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has reportedly made the decision that he ‘wants out’ this summer amid reports linking him with a move to Man Utd.
Kane initially wanted to leave Tottenham in 2021. Man City were interested in him at the time but they were unwilling to pay £150m for the forward.
The England international opted to verbally commit his future to Tottenham for the time being but he did not sign a new contract. His current deal is up in 2024.
The forward is about to enter the final year of his contract and Man Utd are keen to sign him as a long-term replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Conflicting reports have emerged in recent months over whether Kane intends to remain at Spurs beyond the end of his current contract. But some have suggested that the club’s current woes may lead to him pushing for a transfer.
Now The Mirror’s Darren Lewis has posted an opinion piece about Conte on Monday. He argued that it would be a ‘big mistake’ for Tottenham to get rid of the Italian.
Three paragraphs into the piece, he drops the major claim that Kane ‘wants out in the summer’. Lewis also notes that the forward’s contract situation means Spurs ‘will either have to sell him or risk him running it down’.
A separate report from The Times states that Tottenham would want £100m for Kane this summer.
They also would demand Man Utd to pay this fee ‘up front’. Otherwise, a sale would ‘not be considered’ by Daniel Levy.
Levy is known as a stern negotiator and he hopes that this demand ‘puts off’ Man Utd this summer.
Stan Collymore thinks this summer is the right time for Kane to move on. The pundit feels that the forward has “never had an easier way out” of Tottenham.
“The situation at Spurs is giving Harry Kane the perfect excuse to leave in the summer. He’s never had an easier way out. Seriously, who is honestly going to begrudge him a move elsewhere now?” Collymore told Caught Offside.
“That man has done just about everything he can for Spurs but now, at the age of 29, soon to be 30, this summer is going to be possibly his last opportunity to move on and go to a club that stands a real chance of winning some major silverware – whether that is Chelsea or Manchester United, who knows, but I guarantee that they’ll both be in the running for Kane come to the summer window.
“If I were Kane, I would do everything in my power to get a move to Manchester United, but that’s me speaking as an older former pro, the fact Chelsea are based in London will probably play a big part as Kane’s family life may mean he doesn’t want to relocate too far away from where he has been for the majority of his playing career.”
