Kane Brown comes from a blended family: The country singer has a paternal half-sister, Heidi Swafford, and a maternal half-brother, CJ Cordell.

Ken has been open about his difficult childhood, sharing stories about growing up in unstable environments. The "Thank God" vocalist and his mother, Tabatha Brown, often experienced homelessness, sometimes living out of their car, per The New York Times. “[I] had to grow up a lot faster than a normal person," he told CBS News in 2022.

Living in a single-parent household, Kane’s maternal grandfather — who he shares with his half-brother CJ — helped raise him, he told County Music Radio in 2022. “He was my only father figure because my dad’s been in prison since I was a child,” he said, adding that his song “Pop’s Last Name” is about him.

Kane and his sister Heidi’s father is part Black and part Cherokee, which left Kane confused about his racial identity as a child, he told PEOPLE in 2018. “I'm biracial; I didn't know that until I was 7 or 8 years old. I thought I was full white,” he said.

Aside from rare social media photos together, Kane and his siblings are private about their relationships with one another. Heidi and CJ also keep their personal lives largely out of the public eye.

Here’s everything to know about Kane Brown’s siblings — Heidi Swafford and CJ Cordell — and their relationship with their singer brother.

Kane and his younger half-sister, Heidi (who goes by the name Heidi Monshell Navaeh on Facebook), share a father who was incarcerated in 1996, per The New York Times. Kane was around 3 years old at the time, and Heidi was born the following year to her mom, Roxanne Dodson.

“[My dad] is a drummer, which I didn’t even know,” Kane told Billboard in 2018. “He brags about me and talks about how good he is on the drums. I always joke with him and say that I’m going to hire him when he gets out.”

His father’s absence for most of his childhood influenced Kane to become a supportive dad himself.

When Kane and his wife, fellow musician Katelyn Jae Brown, welcomed their two children (with a third on the way!), he “always knew that I was gonna try to be there,” he told host Gayle King on an episode of CBS Mornings in 2022. “I just always wanted to give them the life that I never had.”

Kane and his younger half-brother CJ — who is about three years younger than Kane — share their mother, Tabatha.

She often shares photos on her social media of the two brothers, including a 2016 Facebook photo of herself with Kane and CJ, standing in their living room around Christmastime with the caption, “My babies.”

Kane supported his sister during a difficult time

When it comes to his relationship with his half-sister Heidi, Kane does not often share details. He did, however, post a photo with his arms around her in 2015.

“Brother/sister love 💯,” he captioned the Facebook photo of them sitting in a booth at Buffalo Wild Wings.

In 2016, just as her brother was earning recognition for his music, Heidi made the news herself when she was 19 years old. During a fight with another woman, she was stabbed in the neck and shoulder, per Local 3 News and the Chattanooga Times Free Press. The injuries were not life-threatening but carried the risk of permanent nerve damage.

The following day, Kane posted his concern on Facebook. “Prayers for my sister please! I'm all the way out in Nebraska and get a text that she was stabbed 4 times! ... I'm so sick to my stomach right now.”

Before the "Miles On It" singer became a dad for the first time in 2019, his half-siblings made him an uncle.

CJ welcomed his son — Brayden Cordell — in June 2012. The following year, Tabatha posted a photo on Facebook of 1-year-old Brayden and Kane, smiling and looking at each other. “This is such a cute picture,” she captioned the post.

According to his Facebook, CJ is married to Kristen Brooke Cordell and still lives in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he and Kane grew up.

The couple married in July 2018 and have three children: CJ’s son, Brayden, and Kristen’s two daughters. Most recently, CJ celebrated the holidays with Kristen and their kids.

In recent years, Heidi also became a mom to at least two children, one of whom Kane posted a photo with on Facebook in 2015. “My nephew and I, he looks so happy in the picture!” he captioned the selfie of himself and his young nephew.
