Justin Theroux addresses rumors that he gets naked on planes: 'We’re in first class'
"I'll take my shoes off and maybe my shirt, and then I'm asleep."
Justin Theroux has an unusual wardrobe for air travel — and his description of it isn't exactly brief.
In an interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, the Leftovers star addressed rumors that he sleeps naked on planes. "You're in the public eye sometimes, and you get questions from a tabloid or something that says 'Can you confirm or deny X, Y?'" Theroux said. "I got one that I was a nudist on airplanes, that I would get on airplanes naked and walk around them. So I thought it'd be kinda fun to reply, 'Yes, I am a nudist on planes.' This could be hilarious."
Theroux said that he began spitballing ideas for false responses with his friends. "What could we say? We could say like, 'Yeah, I insist on being naked because X, Y, Z,'" he recalled. "And then I was telling Jason Bateman, our friend, this thing and he goes, 'Yeah, but dude, you do fly naked on planes.' And I was like, 'What? What are you talking about?'"
In Theroux's telling, Bateman mistook his totally normal nearly-naked state with total nudity. "He was like, 'Yeah, when we flew to London… I came by to say goodnight to you and you were totally naked!'" he recalled. "I was like, 'I wasn't naked, I was in my boxer shorts!' And he was like, 'Yeah, so clearly someone saw you and thought that you were naked.' So that's the origin of the story."
The Mosquito Coast star went on to take a playful shot at Bateman. "Jason's also that guy who wears pajamas and goes to brush his teeth three times before he goes to bed. He puts on a whole outfit," he said.

Theroux also noted that he wasn't among ordinary civilians when the boxer incident took place. "We're not in 38J, either. We're in first class, in a little cubicle," he said. "I thought it was private, it was dark lighting."
"In your boxers?" Fallon attempted to clarify.
"Yeah — well, no," Theroux responded. "I would do this thing where I'll sort of go, and I'll take my shoes off and maybe my shirt, and then I'm asleep. The whole plane's dark, so I'm not — I'm in the fetal position!"
