Looks like Shawn Mendes and Justin Bieber definitely had to learn more about each other before their brand new song.

After announcing their collaboration together, "Monster", Justin had a little fun with his brand new trackmate and posted an old video from an interview where he asked "Who is Shawn Mendes?" after he was asked about him.

The video is actually from September 2015, so don't think he still doesn't know anything about him.

Shawn also had some fun with the joke when he posted a pic with himself and young actor Jacob Tremblay with the caption, "You don’t remember us taking this pic together? @justinbieber."

Justin couldn't let him have the last word and he replied back, "This guy thinks he can beat me in hockey," bringing back an old joke between them from 2019 where the two Canadian pop stars joked about playing hockey for the title of "Prince of Pop".

While a hockey match still hasn't happened yet (at least to our knowledge), Shawn did open up before and reveal that he has gotten closer to Justin over the past few months.

"In the last six months, we’ve definitely become a lot closer. It’s really cool to have him as a mentor in a lot of ways, just to kind of talk through stuff with, because there’s not many people who do this type of stuff," he said while talking on Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp.

Shawn also revealed a little more about what the track is about while speaking with Zane Lowe on Apple Music.

"It’s about how society can put celebrities up on a pedestal and watch them fall and it seems to be this entertainment thing. And it’s hard. And his heart fell deep into it. And him and I, even yesterday, were on the phone for an hour and had the deepest conversation, I think, about so much," he said.

Here's hoping that this is just the beginning of a beautiful new friendship.
