Jurgen Klopp admits that he is ‘committed’ to Liverpool after being asked about the potential sale of the club by FSG following the penalty shootout win over Derby in the Carabao Cup third round.
It was announced on Monday that the club’s American owners had put Liverpool up for sale in a shock move, but the Reds responded positively on the pitch, although they were pushed all the way by the League One Rams.
Klopp’s men are the Carabao Cup holders but had to thank goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher for saving their blushes in a shootout win.
The Republic of Ireland international, playing his first game since scoring the winning spot-kick against Chelsea at Wembley in February, saved three Derby penalties as Klopp‘s untried side scraped past Derby after a goalless draw.
Harvey Elliott, introduced as a 65th-minute substitute along with Roberto Firmino and Darwin Nunez, scored the decisive kick as the disappointing hosts won 3-2 in the shoot-out.
And speaking after the game, Klopp was asked about the surprise events of the last couple of days, telling reporters: “Chelsea got sold. We are looking for investors. It is completely different.
“As far as I know [FSG] are looking for investors and that makes sense. Whatever happens I am committed to the club.
“Nobody had a heart attack when they heard the news.
“For me it’s just important, while this process is happening, we keep going and planning.
“Whatever will happen it will take time, if somebody comes in, or whatever.”
Klopp keeping calm and carrying on
“Until then it can be a lot of things, we have to keep going, not only football-wise. And I will make sure that’s the case.
“In the moment, nothing happened. Nobody had a heart attack when we heard the news.
“It’s just a decision, it’s fine. We have a great relationship with FSG. Whatever happens, we will see.”
The Reds are back in action on Saturday when they host Southampton in the final game before the World Cup break.
