Judge Denies Bail to Millionaire Twins Despite Desperate Courtroom Plea
A Florida judge showed no mercy to the accused rapist Oren Alexander on Thursday despite his plea to be temporarily freed so he could witness the birth of his child.
Oren’s wife is reportedly nine-months pregnant and on the “verge” of going into labor, the wealthy realtor and socialite claimed in court. He asked that be given bail to head to the hospital.
“I would like to be able go to the hospital if my wife’s in labor,” he “blurted” out in court, the Miami Herald reported.
Judge Mindy Glazer didn’t budge. She instead ordered the 37-year-old and his twin brother, Alon, to remain in custody until they can attend a formal bond hearing on Friday—even if that means possibly missing out on the birth of his child.
Glazer said the millionaire duo’s access to private jets and yachts made them too much of a flight risk, and that the accusations against him—of gang rape and sex trafficking—made them a “danger to the community.”
It’s a brutal reality check for the men, who wore suicide vests for their virtual appearance in court. That attire is a far cry from the designer suits they’ve typically been photographed in.
Oren and Tal Alexander, a third brother, together hold the record for selling America’s most expensive home. All three brothers were arrested Wednesday on accusations they conspired “to repeatedly and violently drug, sexually assault, and rape dozens of victims” over the course of 11 years. However, only the twins are facing state charges in Florida.
The Daily Mail reported that brothers’ parents were “ashen-faced” as they watched from inside the courtroom on Thursday.
All three brothers are accused of using “the promise of luxury experiences” to “lure and entice women” into locations where they were vulnerable, a federal indictment alleges. The victims were then “forcibly raped or sexually assaulted, sometimes by multiple men, including one or more of the Alexander brothers,” investigators said.
Their arrest comes on the heels of a slew of lawsuits against the men that levied stomach-churning allegations of gang rape and sex trafficking. The trio have denied the accusations and, through their lawyers, have called the civil cases meritless.
Oren’s waterfront mansion in Miami Beach was raided by authorities on Wednesday morning, Bloomberg reported, citing a bureau spokesperson.
Oren and Tal became big names by appearing as brokers on reality TV shows like Million Dollar Listing. Off camera, they were known to be socialites in Florida and beyond, having been photographed partying with figures like Tommy Hilfiger.
The duo were extremely successful as realtors, famously selling a $238 million Manhattan penthouse to Ken Griffin in 2019. That set the record for the most expensive home sold in American history.
Their recent fall from grace, however, has the trio staring down a decade behind bars if they’re convicted on charges of sex trafficking.
