He will host the episodes on Thursday, June 27, and Tuesday, September 10, after the debates between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump.

It forms part of The Daily Show’s “Indecision 2024” election coverage. The late-night staple is heading to the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee from July 15-18 and the Democratic National Convention in Chicago from August 19-22, where it will tape a full week of shows.

Stewart spoke about his return to the show, which has seen its best ratings since 2015, at a recent FYC event in Los Angeles. He said the show works best if there’s a “clarity of vision and flexibility of process.”

“There are broader themes that make the show cohesive,” he said. “We talk about Trump as a threat to democracy, and autocracy as a threat to democracy, external threats, but I think it’s more interesting to ask why internally that democracy feels fragile like that – where does that disconnect come from? And you can apply that to pharma, the pandemic. … We can treat Trump like a black hat hacker finding all the gaps in the system. So what if we applied our process to where those gaps are? And if Trump can expose the vulnerabilities and we can map them and see where you can strengthen them, we can then protect ourselves in a way from how demagogues can take control of the discourse. That’s the broad way, but then we go in, and how can we use that in production? That’s what we employ.”
