Jon Rahm ready for break after rough showing at Andalucia Masters: 'I don't want to see a golf club'
The world’s top-ranked golfer, it seems, is ready to take a break.
Jon Rahm missed the cut after falling 14 shots off the leader at the Andalucia Masters on Friday at the Real Club Valderrama in Spain. He opened the tournament by matching his worst-ever professional round with a 7-over 78.
“This is the first time in my life that I don’t want to see a golf club,” Rahm said, via The Associated Press. “And this comes from someone who loves this sport, and after a year in which some pretty good things have happened to me.”

Rahm went on an incredible run on the PGA Tour last season, one that elevated him to the top spot in the Official World Golf Rankings.
The 26-year-old won the U.S. Open in June, his first tournament back after having to withdraw from the Memorial Tournament with a massive lead due to a positive COVID-19 test. He followed that up with a T3 finish at the British Open, and finished in the top-10 at all three FedExCup Playoffs events.
In total, he had 15 top-10 finishes on the season, and was inside the top-10 at five of the six major championships played last season.
But, after the United States beat Rahm and the rest of Team Europe at the Ryder Cup last month, Rahm has struggled. He finished T17 at the Spanish Open despite opening with a 63, and has now missed the cut in his second straight event in his home country.
Rahm said he now likely won’t compete again until the World Tour Championship in Dubai in November.
“More than my body, it is my mind that can’t take it. I am going to hang up my clubs for four weeks,” Rahm said, via The Associated Press. “I haven’t stopped since the stoppage because of COVID. ... If we add it all up, I need to rest.”
