Johor Tourism Golf Tournament 2022 draws 160 players from seven countries

JOHOR BARU, Dec 15 – The Tourism Johor Golf Tournament 2022 held at The Els Club Desaru Coast in Johor on December 3 and 4 attracted 160 local and foreign players.

Foreign players who participated in the 36-hole tournament for the Tunku Panglima Johor Challenge Trophy were from the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Australia, South Africa and Indonesia.

Johor Golf Tourism Association (JGTA) president Colonel Mohd Jamal Salleh said the organisation was pleased with the success of the fifth edition of the tournament, and was grateful to all partners, sponsors, and players who took part.

“This tournament has become more lively due to continuous support, thus showing that the golf tourism industry in Johor promises great potential in the future.

“This tournament would not take place without the continued commitment, support and participation from Tourism Malaysia and Tourism Johor as well as our partners such as Weststar Technics, Maxus, The Els Club Desaru Coast, Desaru Coast, MST Golf, 360 Hospitality, Titoni, Cobra & Gutty, Tan Radio, Yakult, Petronas, Desaru Fruit Farm, Qul Holdings (M) and many more.

“JGTA also appreciates the support and assistance provided by the local authorities of the Pengerang municipal council, the Kota Tinggi Public Works Department and the Penawar health office,” he said in a statement.

Mohd Jamal said the JGTA was also deeply grateful to Tunku Abdul Rahman Sultan Ibrahim for his blessing and continued solid support for the tournament.

He further said the main objective of the golf tournament is to support Tourism Malaysia’s campaign on “Cuti Cuti Malaysia” through golf events with the intention of stimulating the golf tourism industry in Johor.

“Therefore, to make this year’s event more interesting for the first time JGTA will feature the Johor Tourism Golf Festival which has been launched by the Malaysian Tourism Package Development Division’s senior deputy director Ahmad Johanif Mohd Ali,” he said.

During the tournament, the handicap of three contestants, Shahrel Iqubal Dom Ami emerged as the overall champion of the “Gross” category, winning the Tunku Panglima Johor Challenge Trophy.

The overall champion for the Nett category was Muhammad Hanif Abu Bakar who won with a handicap of 14, while Johanis topped Division A for the Gross and the Nett category belonged to Mohd Nasharuddin Mat Nasir.

Division B for the Gross and Nett categories were won by Mohd Hamdan Saidon and Zulkifli Ally, respectively. Meanwhile, Norhisham Hussein won Gross Division C and Ahmad Fariq Omar won Nett.
