KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 — From office wear to ‘baju melayu’, a man from Johor has been garnering online attention for dressing up his rescued-pet monkey.

The owner, Mohd Muzamir Roslan, 30, has been taking care of his monkey, Aby, for almost two years now and would often share videos of Aby on his TikTok page.

Some of the videos have garnered over a million views including one where Aby was seen rocking a Baju Melayu outfit with dyed red hair.

Speaking to portal MStar, Muzamir who now has over 100,000 followers on TikTok, shared that he even received an offer from an Indonesian monkey clothing company who wants Aby to flaunt their products.

“I love sharing videos of Aby since he was still a baby. Now Aby is one year and six months old.

“Previously, I bought some monkey clothes from Indonesia and then the company offered to give some clothes to Aby.

“They wanted us to do a promotional video for them. After this we will have a Hari Raya photoshoot as it is just around the corner. Currently, Aby has over 100 pieces of clothes,” Muzamir said.

Muzamir, who works as a gardener also shared that Aby actually has a tragic backstory.

In August 2021, after attending a meeting in Sungai Besi, KL, Muzamir stumbled upon a family of monkeys on the road which was believed to have been run over.

He then decided to rescue all three of the monkeys unfortunately, two of them died just a few hours after being saved and Muzamir was left with its baby, Aby.

Aby was not only welcomed by Muzamir’s family but was also loved and cared for by Muzamir’s pet cat, who acted as Aby’s surrogate mother.

Although Aby was living in his home, Muzamir would try his best to train Aby to normalise itself in its natural habitat.

“I’ve built a huge cage for Aby to train in. I would also usually bring Aby to my farm and although he doesn’t know how to pick coconuts, Aby knows how to find mangrove snails.

“Many would volunteer to look after Aby whenever I brought him to the farm. If not, I would just let him play in his cage and after finishing work, I would take him back inside the house,” he said, adding that Aby usually sleeps inside his house as well.

Muzamir shared that Aby’s presence has brought joy in his life and amongst his family members however, he doesn’t recommend the public to have a monkey as a pet.

“For those thinking of having a pet monkey, my advice is don’t. It’s not as simple as it seems and monkeys are wild animals.

“To train them to be like Aby takes a lot of time and energy. And Aby is not like other monkeys out there. He can listen to our commands and I can’t say the same with other monkeys,” he said.
