JOHOR BARU, Feb 6 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested a 40-year-old man here today in connection with the alleged submission of false claims amounting to more than RM100,000 about two years ago.

The suspect, who is a staff member at a school in Batu Pahat, was understood to have made the false claims back in 2021.

Sources close to the investigation said the suspect was arrested at the Johor MACC office on Jalan Pesiaran Tanjung here at about 5pm after giving his statement to investigators.

“It is understood that in 2021, the suspect had prepared false documents in the name of a company to claim payment related to the supply of teaching and learning module print materials.

“The materials were meant for students at the school where he is employed. However, the supply work was not carried out,” said the sources.

Johor MACC director Datuk Azmi Alias, when contacted tonight, confirmed the suspect’s arrest.

“The case will be investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 for providing false claims,” he said.

Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 deals with persons providing false documents such as receipts or invoices that contain fake details with the intention to deceive.

The suspect is expected to be brought to the Johor Baru Magistrate’s Court at 9am tomorrow for a remand application.
