JOHOR BARU, June 15 — Police are in the process of tracking down the drivers of six Malaysia-registered Hyundai Starex multi-purpose vehicles (MPV) after they were caught on camera cutting the queue along the Johor Causeway en route to the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) here and holding up traffic along a special lane reserved for lorries and buses.

Johor Baru South police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said one of the six MPV drivers was located and a traffic summons issued.

He said the man and five other MPV drivers involved had allegedly committed the offence at 2.50pm on June 9 as they travelled from Singapore to Johor.

“Police detected a viral video on social media lasting more than three minutes showing several Hyundai Starex MPVs using the special lane reserved for lorries and buses to cut the queue.

“All six MPVs involved were on their way back to Malaysia from Singapore and they had blocked the dedicated lane for lorries and buses before attempting to re-join the regular lanes,” said Raub in a statement today.

Raub said efforts are being made to locate the remaining drivers involved in the incident.

He urged those who have information to assist the police by contacting 07-2237977.

From the Facebook video that was uploaded to Malaysian-Singapore community group “JB Tracer”, several MPVs were seen deliberately blocking the dedicated lane for lorries and buses in their attempt to bypass the long traffic queues.

Lorry drivers can be heard honking their vehicles’ horns several times in the footage.

The traffic queues along the Johor Causeway have gained notoriety of late, with most cars taking one to two hours just to clear passport control at BSI’s customs, immigration and quarantine before entering Johor Baru.
