ISKANDAR PUTERI, Dec 6 — The Johor government can accommodate the food supply for a total of 194,195 flash flood victims in 777 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) throughout the state, said State Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Khairin-Nisa Ismail.

She said the latest capacity has been made possible as of September this year.

“The state government has identified a number of dry and wet food providers to ensure there is enough food for the flood victims.

“Through the 2022/2023 northeast monsoon preparation statistics from the Johor Social Welfare Department (JKM), a total of 75 dry food suppliers and 70 cooked food suppliers have been identified in each district.

“The food supply rationing in every PPS managed by the district’s social welfare office according to a price quota, which is set at RM25 per person for a day,” said Khairin-Nisa at the Johor state legislative assembly session in Bangunan Sultan Ismail here.

The Serom assemblyman was responding to a question from Rashidah Ismail (BN-Pasir Raja) regarding the state JKM’s preparations in light of the flood disasters in Johor.

Khairin-Nisa also said that the state government’s other monsoon preparations included the arrangement of PPS, logistics, provisioning of supply in all district disaster stores, updating the list of cooked food suppliers in all districts and the listing of all manpower involving JKM staff and volunteers.

“Up till November this year a total of 457 personnel have been placed in all the 10 districts in the state.

“An additional 413 staff from the Johor JKM state headquarters and seven other welfare institutions in the state will also be on standby and prepared to be deployed if there is a need,” she said.
