Joel Chan says relationship with Florinda Ho was a great test

14 May – His TVB series, "Brutally Young" was all about the mistakes made when one was younger, and according to Joel Chan, he would've loved to do a better job in dealing with his breakup with socialite Florinda Ho if he could turn back time.

In an interview with Mingpao, the actor who made headlines seven years ago for his controversial relationship with the casino heiress, stated that the experience was a great test for him that taught him a valuable lesson.

"If I can make a choice, I would have liked to do a better job at it. But there is no turning back in life. The past is in the past. You can't keep on expressing remorse. All you have to do is to face the future directly and find a way out of your predicament," he said.

Joel stated that the scandal was the biggest experience in his life and also the greatest setback he had ever faced, since he not only lost a relationship, but also his career in acting, his image, and his friendship with good pal Christine Ng.

It was back in 2011 that Joel was revealed to have been pursuing Florinda, and started dating the socialite during which he was revealed to have been secretly married to his non-showbiz wife Ponny. Although the exposure changed nothing between him and Florinda, the socialite later ended their relationship in 2013.

The actor said that he was fortunate to have met his now wife, Apple, who accepted him with open hands.

"At the time, I was at the lowest point of my life. I was fortunate to have her with me. She said to me, your past has nothing to do with me. What I know is who you are now. Everyone has a past, and I am the same. She is very calm and analytical, while I am always impulsive. She is the goddess of fortune in my life," he said.

Joel is now doing well in his career. After returning to TVB, he had patched things up with Christine, got promoted to lead star status, married the woman he loved, and is now expecting his first baby.
