17 Sep – Joe Ma is set to appear in the same series with his son Xiang Ma for the first time in TVB's, "My Family Has No Hardships".
As reported on Mingpao, Xiang, who appeared at the press conference of the new project together with his actor father, revealed that he will play the younger version of Joe from the '90s.
As to what prompted him to accept the project, Xiang said that he decided to do so as he was unable to return to Australia to continue his studies due to the pandemic.
He is also not worried at all about his Cantonese proficiency, telling the media that he will consult his father if there are lines that he doesn't understand.
It is noted that Xiang previously signed a contract with Shaw Brothers alongside his father.
On the other hand, Joe stated that he has already discussed the character with his son, and even planned on sharing with his son the way he walked and talked back when he was young to make it easier for Xiang to emulate.
When mentioned he was once against his son joining showbiz, Joe clarified, "I was never opposed to it. I just said that I wanted him to develop on his own. When the producer asked me about having Xiang in the series, I immediately asked him if he wanted to do it."
