Joe Fresh Black Friday deals: I'm a plus-size shopaholic — here's everything I bought for winter (it's all on sale!)
I wear a size 2XL — here's what's worth buying for fall and winter from Joe Fresh's plus-size collection.
It can be difficult to find the sweet spot between style and staying warm in the winter, especially if you're plus-size. For years, trying to find a decent coat or sweater was not fun for me — I always had to choose between fashion and function. The size I’d normally wear was suddenly too small, and when I sized up, it didn't flatter my body. Thankfully, retailers like Joe Fresh exist. Their sweaters and coats are warm and don’t look awkward on my body, even when I size up.
Ahead of Black Friday 2024, Joe Fresh has 25 per cent off adult styles, meaning you can save on hundreds of items — including coats and sweaters — before the holiday season. Keep scrolling for my honest review of the Joe Fresh plus-size line, according to someone who wears a size 2XL.
Plaid Car Coat
The Plaid Car Coat is made for Canadian winter. Whether it’s -4°C or -40°C, you'll be completely fine. It is a very long coat, but I don’t mind the length (I’m 5’4). I love that it covers my legs from the cold. It’s also a statement piece and makes for a sophisticated winter look. The only thing I’d suggest is to size up. You’ll feel more comfortable around the waist when buttoned, and it won’t affect the look.
Cotton Cashmere Knit Polo Sweater
It may not look like it, but the Cotton Cashmere Knit Polo Sweater is incredibly warm. I wasn’t sure how I’d look in a polo sweater. But it’s become one of my favourites for the cold weather. I love the collar, the V-neckline and its overall style. The only thing I’d advise is to mind the length of the sweater. It is cropped, so if you prefer it longer, other options may be more suitable.
Rib-Stitch Sweater Dress
The Rib-Stitch Sweater Dress is a dress you’ll want to wear when it's chilly outside. It’s chic, comfortable and super flattering. Plus, it’s so warm that you don’t need to pair it with a thick coat. I’m a big fan of mock necks, and this one gets my approval. I’ve worn it a couple of times already, and I love that it can suit any occasion. The only thing I’d point out is the length. I’m not the tallest, and I had to lift the dress to avoid tripping over it.
Mock Neck Puffer With PrimaLoft
I can’t stop wearing the Mock Neck Puffer Jacket. Whether to the gym or out for errands, I love how it’s both casual and stylish. It may be thin, but it’s actually pretty warm. I love that it’s super soft and insulated, and I appreciate the cuffed ends, too. Also, I’m glad I sized up. If not, I don’t think I could’ve closed the jacket completely or had it pass the sit test. Although, the one thing I’d point out is the collar. It can be a bother because of its height, but it just takes some getting used to.
Long Sleeve
I’d buy two more of these sweaters if I could. It’s flattering, slimming, and snug without being too tight. The mock neck with the mini marrow edges is such a nice touch. I’m also obsessed with the colour. Usually, I try to avoid wearing sweaters like this, but I love how it looks on my body. It’s so comfortable, and it pairs well with a skirt. It’s slightly tight under the arms, but it’s rarely a bother.
Funnel Neck Knit Sweater
I am going to be wearing the Funnel Neck Knit Sweater all winter long — it's the coziest sweater I own! Sometimes, sweaters aren't as flattering on plus-size bodies, but I like the relaxed fit and how soft the material is. It also compliments my shape in some ways. I love the funnel neck and I love that it perfectly pairs with jeans and leggings.
Cropped Shacket
The Cropped Shacket is exceptionally warm, and honestly, I’m thinking of wearing it during the winter. I’ve already walked to my car in near-zero weather wearing it and faced a few chilly mornings. It's stylish and the front buttons add a nice touch. I had to size this one up as well. Even if it looks big, at least I can close the front completely. Plus, I like the oversized look.
