‘Joe Exotic’ Series at Peacock Casts Brian Van Holt as John Reinke

The “Joe Exotic” series at Peacock is rounding out its cast with the addition of Brian Van Holt, Variety has learned.

Van Holt joins previously announced series stars Kate McKinnon, who will play Carole Baskin, and John Cameron Mitchell, who will play Joe Exotic.

Van Holt recently starred in the Fox cop drama “Deputy” opposite Stephen Dorff. His other TV credits include “John From Cincinnatti,” “The Bridge,” and “Cougar Town.” On the film side, he is known for his roles in “Black Hawk Down,” “House of Wax,” “SWAT,” and “Den of Thieves.”

He is repped by Paradigm, Luber Roklin, and Morris Yorn.

Based on the Wondery Podcast of the same name, “Joe Exotic” centers on Carole Baskin (McKinnon), a big cat enthusiast, who learns that fellow exotic animal lover Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel (Mitchell) is breeding and using his big cats for profit. She sets out to shut down his venture, inciting a quickly escalating rivalry. But Carole has a checkered past of her own and when the claws come out, Joe will stop at nothing to expose what he sees as her hypocrisy. The results prove dangerous.

It was previously announced that the show would air across Peacock, USA Network, and USA, but NBCUniversal recently reversed that decision and decided to run the series exclusively on Peacock.

Etan Frankel serves as writer and executive producer under his overall deal with UCP. McKinnon executive produces in addition to starring along with Wondery’s Hernan Lopez, Marshall Lewy, and Aaron Hart. UCP will produce. Justin Tipping will direct the first four episodes, including the pilot.
