Jodie Comer reveals her secret to glowing skin, ‘no matter how intoxicated you may be’
Red carpet dressing, and the glitz and glam of hair and make-up backstage, is not something celebrities need to worry about in 2020. Friday marked the first ever virtual TV Baftas, which Jodie Comer ‘attended’ in her back garden at home in Liverpool. Just as well she has a qualification in applying make-up, as she revealed in the Telegraph's Stella magazine last month.
The 27 year old actress, who was nominated for the Leading Actress category for her role in Killing Eve, still got dressed for the occasion. “I’ve swapped the Royal Festival Hall for a BBQ in the back garden!” she told her 1.6million Instagram fans on Friday.
Wearing a dress by the British brand Duro Olowu, Comer credited her bronzed, glowy skin to Noble Panacea (she’s the brand ambassador to the luxury skincare brand). The brand's £235 serum, she says, “gives me that extra hydration throughout the day, so deeply calming on my skin and waking up with a glow always makes a girl feel good, especially today to give me that natural BAFTA glow.” The actress is wearing a pop of complexion-boosting magenta lipstick. too.
Much besides expensive skincare, Comer credits her good skin to always washing her face before bed, “no matter how intoxicated you may be,” as well as products that are “thick but not greasy. There’s nothing worse for me than when a product just disappears into your skin.”
But how else does she get her glow? In an interview with me last month, Comer told me she uses the Seamless Finish Foundation by Hourglass, £51, for polished-looking skin. “My face in general is such a huge part of my job, so if my skin is not looking great, it gets me down,” she said. “I realised the more I look after my skin from within, or with really good products, the more comfortable I feel without make-up.”
As for the tanned complexion, I’m going to hazard a guess and say it’s more likely to be bronzing make-up than a tan from sitting in the sun for too long. My trained ‘beauty editor’ eye tells me it’s a highlighting bronzer that has given Comer that effect. My personal favourite is the £34 Hollywood Flawless Filter by Charlotte Tilbury, which would recreate Comer's luminous, summery glow.
Described as a 'customisable complexion booster', the product has been around for about two years and is still as popular now as when it first launched. It imitates the ‘soft filter’ effect on the skin, a hybrid between a highlighter and bronzer. It creates an undeniably pretty effect whether used all over underneath foundation, or applied across the collarbone, temples and cheekbones (a technique Comer may well have used).
It gives such a sheer filter on the skin that you can in fact use it all over the face for a visible complexion boost. You can even use it once you've applied your make-up, using the wand to go over areas where you would usually apply foundation.
Whatever her secret, lockdown clearly suits Comer. She has spent the past few months living at home with her parents and brother in Liverpool, and told me last month she’s been eating roast dinners, sitting on the sofa watching TV and occasionally baking a Victoria sponge. Well, maybe that’s the secret to glowing skin after all.
