He Jiong apologises for comments on Nana Ouyang's acting

28 May – Chinese TV personality He Jiong recently apologised for his comments made on the reality show, "Go Fridge", which many assumed to have been directed towards Zhang Ziyi for her criticism of Nana Ouyang.

As reported on Epoch Times, the apology came following the release of the promo video from the show's latest episode in which the 19-year-old Taiwanese artiste appeared as guest.

In the said promo, He can be heard talking about the criticism that Nana received from judges that she has no understanding of the role she was playing, saying that he thinks that the issue stemmed from the lack of guidance from the acting instructors and the editing of the programme instead of Nana herself.

He then praised the young starlet for her strong mind on the show, saying that he believes that while Nana has her own grievances, she did not try to justify herself. He expressed that seeing that the actress was being hurt, he was not only distressed but also angry that the judges were hurting a kid who just wanted to learn acting.

Although he made no mention as to what he was referring to, many speculated that he was talking about Nana's previous appearance on "The Birth of an Actor" in 2017, where she was criticised by Zhang Ziyi for her performance.

Following the release of the promo, He took to Weibo on 26 May to apologise for his words, saying that he felt that his expression was inappropriate.

"I am not qualified to comment on performances or even have the right to make comments about other programmes. Nor should I express such thoughts that could hurt others. I will take this as a lesson to be more cautious," he added.
