Sir Jim Ratcliffe has publicly confirmed his interest in buying Manchester United.

The Glazer family – who have faced significant fan opposition during their tenure – confirmed their intention to examine potential sources of outside investment in the club back in November.

Investment bankers were instructed to advise on the process, which is likely to include a full or partial sale, or strategic partnership with third parties.

The Independent first revealed Ratcliffe’s interest in United back in November.

And Ratcliffe’s Ineos, who own French club Nice, have confirmed their intention to press on.

"We have formally put ourselves into the process," an Ineos spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday.

The Glazers took over at United with a £790million leveraged buy-out in 2005.
