Jennifer Lopez and Marlee Matlin are among the stars heading to Utah in January for the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.

On Wednesday, Dec. 11, the Sundance Institute announced 87 feature films and six episodic projects selected to feature at the annual independent film festival. This year's edition of the festival is highlighted by Lopez's upcoming movie Kiss of the Spider Woman, a musical that her ex-husband Ben Affleck produced, as well as the documentary Marlee Matlin: Not Alone Anymore, which explores Academy Award-winning actress Matlin's career as a trailblazer for the deaf community in Hollywood.

“The Sundance Film Festival remains steadfast in its commitment to elevating unique and urgent voices in independent storytelling. Audiences can expect a 2025 program that showcases varied and vibrant filmmaking globally,” Robert Redford, the legendary actor and Sundance Institute founder and president, said in a statement.

An official festival synopsis for Kiss of the Spider Woman describes the movie as "a textually rich historical and political drama with the flashy technicolor extravagance of an old Hollywood musical."

The movie stars Diego Luna (Andor) as a political prisoner during Argentina's civil war in the 1980s, incarcerated alongside another man portrayed by Tonatiuh. It is a reimagining of the 1993 Tony Award-winning musical and 1985 movie of the same name.

"Jennifer Lopez is an astonishing scene-stealer in a career-highlight performance as Luna/Aurora, with showstopping musical numbers that underscore the exuberant prowess of her dancing and voice," reads an official description.

Matlin's life is documented in a new film by Shoshannah Stern, a deaf woman whom an official festival synopsis reads "was inspired to believe that a deaf woman like herself could pursue a career as an actor after seeing Matlin win her Oscar" back in 1987.
