Jennifer Garner Says Her Beloved Dog Died Before Thanksgiving, And It’ll Make You Teary
Actor Jennifer Garner is mourning the death of Birdie, a furry friend who she said is now an “angel girl.”
On Wednesday, the “Elektra” star announced on social media that the beloved pet had died after living “a happy dog life.”
“It is hard to know how to write this— it seems nuts, given the world, to mourn a pet, but since we have shared Birdie with all of you, it only seems fair to let you know of her passing,” Garner wrote in a touching tribute.
“Birdie let us know on Thursday that she wasn’t feeling herself (a renowned foodie, Birdie never missed a meal),” the actor said, adding that her family was then “surprised to learn” that Birdie was “very ill” and “at the end of her life.”
“The vet told us that dogs often hang on until their person comes home from college and we believe Birdie did just that, so that we could pet her soft ears together and thank her for being the world’s best dog,” she shared.
Garner was seemingly referring to her 18-year-old daughter, Violet Affleck — whom the actor shares with ex-husband Ben Affleck — returning home from Yale University for the Thanksgiving holiday. Garner and Affleck are also parents to children Seraphina and Samuel.
Elsewhere in her social media tribute, which featured adorable photos from Birdie’s vibrant life, Garner shared some of her dog’s favorite activities.
“Birdie loved to be read to ... and knew just how to give people what they needed,” the actor wrote, adding that Birdie “is now in the role she was born to play: angel girl. It’s a gift to love and be loved by such a creature as Birdie the Doggie.”
Many of Garner’s millions of social media followers shared message of sympathy, with one person writing: “It’s so hard to lose a pet. My condolences.”
Another said: “Mourn as long as you need to. Birdie was family. I am so sorry for your loss.”
Someone else added, “So sorry and what a beautiful tribute.”
