Jenna Bush Hager has always been open about the close relationship she had with her late grandparents, former U.S. President George H.W. Bush and former First Lady Barbara Bush. “Gampy” and “Ganny” have impacted the Today star so much, that she decided to write an entire book dedicated to them.

Her new book, Everything Beautiful in Its Time (out April 28 and available for pre-order), features a collection of essays and emails that explore various lessons Jenna has learned from the Bushes, as well as her maternal grandparents, Harold and Jenna Welch.

“I wrote this book in a year I lost three of my remaining grandparents, and I just reflected on how beautiful life is and how much they meant to me,” Jenna told the Today cast on Tuesday. “It’s pretty personal and it’s kind of strange to be putting it out there in the world today, but it’s also a love letter to them so I’m so happy to share it.”

Jenna, who is a New York Times best-selling author of two children’s books, said she was a bit nervous to go on tour alone for the first time. (She previously wrote Our Great Big Backyard with her mom, Laura, and Sisters First with her twin sister, Barbara.)

“It was pretty amazing to look back at all of the letters that they have written me over the years,” Jenna said, adding that the title was inspired by a Bible verse that they read at Jenna Welch’s funeral.

“To lose them all in one year, I know many people go through the grief and the beauty of reflecting on the people we lose and love. But I think they’re always whispering to me,” Jenna told the Today cast. The mother of three said that her grandparents have inspired the way she has raised her three children, Mila, Poppy, and Hal. “I think all of their little lessons that we all have from people we lost are still a part of the way we live.”

Jenna hopes that Everything Beautiful in Its Time will ensure that her grandparents’ legacies will live on. “As long as I’m alive, my grandparents will not be forgotten,” she said. “I hear their voices in the letters they sent me and in my memories. They offer comfort, support, and guidance, and I will listen to them always.”
