Jeffree Star's Latest Promo Pics Feature a Woman of Color in a Mouse Trap and Twitter Isn't Happy

It's just another day and a new scandal for Jeffree Star. After major backlash around his Cremated Palette and drama with ex-Andre Marhold, Twitter is calling Jeffree out for what fans think is subtle racism.

On his YouTube channel, Jeffree announced the launch of his new lipstick formula called Velvet Trap, addressing viewers while sitting in the middle of a giant bear trap. Promotional images for the new line continue the theme, depicting models trapped in giant mouse and bear traps.

After Jeffree Star Cosmetics shared the photos, commenters began voicing their displeasure that a woman of color was shown stuck in a tap, as Jeffree has long been accused of racism and has even called Black influencers "rats" in the past.

One person tweeted, "Hey it's super weird to use imagery of a black woman in a rodent trap especially when you have a history of calling black women rats but like every other terrible thing you do, this will inevitably be forgotten until the next launch."

Someone else tweeted, "Remember that one time Jeffree Star called MakeupShayla and Jackie Aina a rat? And then he makes a whole ass campaign with a Black woman in a rat trap? But y’all want to believe he’s a changed person."

Back in 2017, Jeffree reportedly called fellow beauty influencer Jackie Aina an "irrelevant rat" after she included his products in an anti-haul video. In a now deleted tweet, he said, "I blocked that irrelevant rat months ago, way before her 'anti haul.'"

The following year, Jackie released a statement calling Jeffree out for "blatantly racist behavior."

"I have not and will not excuse his blatantly racist behavior - not his past references to me in derogatory terms, his continued use of the N word, nor his efforts to eliminate spaces and opportunities for people of color," the statement says in part. "No one in the community should feel they are protected enough to continuously say things to make black women feel ugly and ashamed in their own skin."

In 2018, Jeffree called another black beauty influencer, MakeupShayla, an "insecure rat" on Snapchat after he claimed Shayla insulted another woman. "Now, why would a grown woman tell another grown woman something that disgusting and ugly unless she was an insecure rat herself," he said in the video.

Jeffree has not yet addressed the controversy.
