Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Donate $110 Million to Combat Homelessness: 'It's a Privilege to Help'
The philanthropists just announced the massive grants for organizations that work to get homeless families off the street
Just one month after Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez donated $100 million through their Bezos Earth Fund to help combat climate change, the philanthropists are once again opening their wallets, this time to help combat homelessness.
The duo announced a donation of $110.5 million that will be granted to 40 different organizations that focus on family homelessness through their Bezos Day 1 Families fund.
“With homelessness on the rise, there has never been a more important time to support those individuals and organizations making a difference,” Sánchez, 55, said in a statement. “Every family deserves a home, and we’re thankful to be able to play a part in working towards making that a reality.”
Bezos, 60, said it was a "privilege" to be able to help in this arena.
“The 40 organizations we’re recognizing today are leading groundbreaking work on the frontlines of the fight to end homelessness and build independence for families,” the Amazon founder said in the same statement.
“No child should sleep outside, and it’s a privilege to help in the extraordinary efforts of these organizations," he added.
Of course, this is hardly the first time the engaged couple has made sizable donations to charitable organizations.
Sánchez, who has also worked with the organizations This is About Humanity has told PEOPLE that it's an honor to be able to give back at this point in her life.
"My nana used to volunteer at a local hospital, and we’d bake banana bread together to hand out to the nurses and doctors. It’s such a simple thing, but it left a mark on me," she said. "Philanthropy, to me, is about more than just giving, it’s about making a real, lasting impact that helps shape the world for future generations."
