Jay Cutler arrested for DUI, gun possession after Tennessee car crash

Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested after a car accident in Tennessee on charges including DUI and illegal possession of a gun, according to reports.

Cutler allegedly rear-ended another vehicle in downtown Franklin on Thursday around 5 p.m., TMZ reported. When authorities arrived on the scene, on the 200 block of Bridge Street, they noticed the retired footballer was slurring his words and that his eyes were bloodshot. They also reported a “strong odor of alcohol” coming from his car, according to a statement from Franklin Police.

After he allegedly refused a field sobriety test, Cutler, 51, was taken to a local hospital “where a blood sample was obtained through a blood search warrant,” police said. Officers also allegedly discovered “two firearms in his vehicle, including a loaded pistol.”

Cutler was booked into the Williamson County Jail Thursday night, but he has since been released on a $5,000 bond, a rep for the Franklin Police Department told TMZ. In addition to the DUI and gun charge, the ex-athlete is also facing counts of failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision and implied consent.

Cutler, who was previously married to reality star Kristin Cavallari, was drafted to the NFL in 2006 and played 12 seasons in the league with the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins before retiring in 2017. He went on to take a broadcasting job with Fox Sports, and he also hosted the “Uncut with Jay Cutler” podcast.

In 2013, Cutler married Cavallari, and they have three children together: sons Camden, 11, Jaxon, 9, and daughter Saylor, 8. They finalized their divorce in 2020, citing “irreconcilable differences” and “inappropriate marital conduct.”
