Disney's Tron 3 looks like it's finally be going ahead, with Jared Leto confirming that he will star in the film.

Deadline reports that the long-awaited threequel is now in development, with Lion director Garth Davis attached to direct.

Leto confirmed his own involvement in a Twitter thread posted on Monday (August 10).

"I'm struck with such gratitude for the opportunity to bring this movie to life, especially as both the original video game and the film affected me so deeply as a young child," he said.

"The fact that I get to be a part of this new chapter is mind-blowing."

Tron was released in 1982 and starred Jeff Bridges as a computer hacker who is abducted and forced to compete in gladiatorial games inside a computer programme called the Grid.

Its sequel, Tron: Legacy, was released in 2010 and starred Bridges alongside Olivia Wilder and Garret Hedlund, with a third movie announced soon after.

Tron 3 was originally greenlit in 2015 but scrapped months later, and rumours of a revival have been swirling ever since.

Leto has actually been attached to Tron 3 since 2017, with Disney music executive Mitchell Leib confirming earlier this month that Disney had a script for the third movie.

It's reported Jesse Wigutow wrote the most recent draft, but the project is still awaiting a full green light so be patient.
