KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 — Many are willing to pay a hefty price to get a good scoop of ice cream.

Only a few however could and would buy a scoop of the delectable dessert that costs as much as a small car.

For those seeking the pricey indulgence, Japanese ice cream brand Cellato recently earned a Guinness World Record title for the world’s most expensive ice cream at RM30,389.

The Byakuya is a dessert made from special ingredients like edible gold leaf, sake lees, rare white truffle from Alba, Italy, and Parmigiano Reggiano cheese.

The special white truffle costs RM68,949 per kilogram and is said to be the highlight of the ice cream.

The Cellato team hired RiVi fusion restaurant head chef Tadayoshi Yamada to fuse the finest European and Japanese ingredients together.

According to staff at Cellato, the white truffle’s aroma covers the mouth first followed by the fruity tang of Parmigiano Reggioano cheese and leaves the tongue with the sweetness of sake lees.

“It took us over one and a half years to develop, with a lot of trials and errors to get the taste right,” a Cellato representative told Guinness World Records.

“Achieving a Guinness World Records title made the effort all worth it.”

The Cellato team will continue to create finer ice cream flavours as they plan to release products featuring champagne and caviar.
