Jana Kramer shares tearful photo after learning divorce was finalized: ‘No one truly prepares you for how it hits you’

Jana Kramer got real about her divorce.

On Monday, the 38-year-old actress shared several photos giving fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse of her upcoming Hallmark movie The Holiday Fix Up, including one in which she's visibly emotional. In the caption, Kramer admitted that this was the day she was officially a single parent to kids Jolie Rae, 5, and Jace Joseph, 3, whom she shares with now former husband Mike Caussin.

"This one was one of the hardest behind the scenes days. The call. Happened July 22nd. I got the official call that I was divorced," Kramer recalled. "20 minutes before my pick up to set. I knew the day was coming but no one truly prepares you for how it hits you when you are told you are officially divorced. My dream of what I wanted for kids and family was officially shattered in this moment. But I also had a job to do. I had to work and be on set moments later. I took this photo to remind myself WE CAN DO HARD THINGS. I also was embraced with so much love that night on set which is why the holiday fix up crew truly became family. We talked about this day on this weeks podcast and I’m joined by @mariamenounos and @ryanmcpartlin to recall the good days and the hard days that we all go through. And of course some funny behind the scenes moments."

On a recent episode of her podcast Whine Down with Jana Kramer, which she formerly shared with Caussin, Kramer briefly discussed the challenges of her first holiday season officially divorced, particularly this past Thanksgiving.

"It was so tough. I get people [who say], ‘It’s just a day'…but for me, it was really, really tough. And I think just the firsts are really hard, but I’ve been told that it gets easier every year. And next year, I have them so that will be good," Kramer admitted.

Kramer also noted that she had been struggling with the fact that she was going to have to "get rid" of her kids on Christmas day by noon, but is trying to change her mindset to be grateful that she is able to have her kids during that special time.

On Instagram, celebrity friends and fans showed their support and praise for the star for her transparency.

"Proud of you. Xoxo," former One Tree Hill cast mate Hilarie Burton Morgan commented.

"You were such a pro!!! Glad we could offer up some laughs in the eye of the storm. Can’t wait for everyone to see your performance on Saturday," Holiday Fix Up co-star Ryan McPartlin praised.

"You’re a symbol and example of bravery, love and resilience!" one fan wrote.

"You are such an example for so many women who can relate. Thank you for your transparency. You exude strength," another commenter added.

The ups and downs of Kramer and Caussin's relationship have played out in the media since their marriage in 2015, with rumors of infidelity that led to a brief split. Kramer announced their divorce in April 2021, after nearly six years of marriage. She will co-parent with Caussin, who will get his children for 125 days per year along with $3,200 per month in spousal support. Right before the divorce was finalized in July, Kramer shared an empowering message about letting go.

"Real talk…I once said leaving is the easy way out. I’ll forever regret that statement because leaving is one of the hardest and painful things to do. The different stages of grief, the confusion, the pain, the relief or happiness which throws you off. Stay or leave you are strong. You are strong to fight for yourself you are strong to fight for your marriage. And both suck (couldn’t find a therapeutic way to say it). But I’m praying there’s healing and light in which ever you choose as I’m on that path of finding that too."
