In a moving Instagram post from Sunday, July 7, the Oscar winner reflected on Brandt, who was married to her mother Janet Leigh from 1962 until her death in 2004. (Brandt died in 2009).

In a post dedicated to his birthday, Curtis shared a black-and-white photo of her family smiling and holding hands with a pool in the background.

Leigh was previously married to the Freaky Friday star's father, Tony Curtis, for 12 years. However, she considers herself and her sister Kelly raised by the stockbroker.

"Today is the anniversary of the birth of Robert Brandt, my 'step' father. The truth is, he raised me from three years on," Curtis, 65, began. "He was a young businessman, an ex Marine, who fell in love with a movie star with two very young daughters."

Curtis went on to describe Brandt as tall, handsome, smart and "incredibly athletic." She noted that he wasn't interested in having children, but "stepped up to that task."
