Heavyweight boxing icon Mike Tyson is being played by Jamie Foxx in a new biopic.
After years stuck in development hell, Foxx himself announced that the passion project was finally moving forward while speaking to producer Mark Birnbaum in a Instagram Live interview this week.
Seemingly titled Finding Mike, the movie will focus on the knockout artist's chaotic life, which saw him spend three years in jail, declare bankruptcy and controversially bite an opponent's ears during a title fight – he also owned a pet tiger.
Foxx teased his physical transformation for the role of 'Iron Mike' on his own Instagram page yesterday (June 19), writing next to a series of photos: "The transformation begins... 'FINDING MIKE'.
"It is no secret that I have been pursuing the @miketyson biopic for some time... people always ask me when is it going to happen?... things have finally lined up...
"A few months ago we started the journey… The first but biggest task is to transform the body... with a regiment of pull-ups dips and push-ups we are off to a pretty good start..."
Meanwhile, the actor told Birnbaum: "Doing biographies is a tough thing. Sometimes it takes 20 years to get it done but we officially got the real ball rolling. I can't wait to show people what it is.
"I saw him [Tyson] at the height of his career, and then when things got bad and bumpy I also saw him as well. So what I'm excited about the movie is to show those moments. I think everyone, young and old, will be able to understand this man's journey."
Even though Foxx has already secured a Best Actor award at the Oscars for his performance in another biopic – 2004's Ray – the reality of portraying one of boxing's most cherished faces could be his toughest test yet.
