James Brown: Chadwick Boseman to portray the Godfather of Soul

Tate Taylor ("The Help") will direct the forthcoming biopic exploring the career highs and lows of "the hardest working man in show business," Variety reports.

Chadwick Boseman, born in 1982, will add another historic figure to his repertoire through the portrayal of James Brown. The actor made a name for himself earlier this year as the star of "42;" the biopic of Jackie Robinson, the first African American to play in Major League Baseball in the 1940s.

The plot points of the screenplay, authored by Jez and John Henry Butterwoth, remain unknown, but Chadwick Boseman's age leads us to believe that the film will focus on James Brown's formative years.

Growing up in the segregated American South, the musician faced a long, rocky road before achieving success in the 1950s with the R&B group The Famous Flames.

The feature film will be co-produced by Brian Grazer of Imagine Entertainment and by Mick Jagger, through his Jagged Films production company. - AFP/Relaxnews, August 28, 2013.
