Jadon Sancho to Chelsea claims debunked – but surprise Man Utd loan exit is under consideration

Jadon Sancho remains very much part of Manchester United’s long-term plans – but TEAMtalk can reveal Erik ten Hag could allow the player to make a surprise temporary exit in the January transfer window.

Big things were expected of Sancho when United eventually landed their man in summer 2020 for a fee of £73m. That deal is the fourth costliest in United’s history, with his signing bringing to an end a near three-year pursuit by the Red Devils.

However, Sancho has failed to match the form he showed at Borussia Dortmund since arriving at Old Trafford. During his time in the Bundesliga, Sancho scored 50 times in 137 appearances. He also created 47 more, meaning he alnost reached 100 goal contributions every 1.4 games.

Sadly for United and Sancho, he has not come anywhere near to that consistency with United. And with Sancho having just eight goals in 52 appearances so far, it was little surprise to see the player miss out on a place in England’s World Cup squad.

Indeed, his last cap for the Three Lions came back in a 5-0 win over Andorra in October 2021.

As a result of his struggles, reports recently claimed Sancho has had his head turned by interest from Chelsea.

And those reports were further substantiated by claims that Graham Potter’s side may even look to tempt United with a possible swap deal.

Man Utd may allow Jadon Sancho to leave on loan

However, TEAMtalk understands a move to Stamford Bridge is absolutely not on the cards for Sancho.

Furthermore, the player – recently put on a bespoke programme to improve his fitness – still remains part of Ten Hag’s future plans.

Together with assistant Steve McClaren, the two men have managed to get Marcus Rashford firing on all cylinders again. And Ten Hag is firmly of the belief that they can repeat that trick with Sancho.

That said, TEAMtalk transfer insider Graeme Bailey reckons a temporary exit out of Old Trafford cannot be ruled out.

“As it stands Erik Ten Hag thinks he can get Jadon Sancho back to his best,” Bailey told TEAMtalk. “He and his team, including Steve McClaren, have done great work with Marcus Rashford. The jury remains out whether they can do the same though here.

“United want Sancho to get back to his best, though he’s some way down the pecking order right now.

“Another issue that Sancho will have to contend with could be Cody Gakpo’s potential arrival. That could also impact on his future.”

Turning attention to a possible January exit, Bailey added: “But in terms of an imminent sale, that is an absolute non-starter. However, a loan I can see and maybe a return to the Bundesliga to get his confidence back. There is nowhere in the world where he is held in higher regard than in Germany.”
