Who is Jack Ruby in Umbrella Academy?
Jack Ruby only appears a few times on the show, however, he plays a big part in Luther's life in the 1960s. After arriving in Dallas, Luther starts working for Ruby at his club as a security guard. His job mostly includes making sure that the club is safe for the women who work there and that no one is bothering Kelly while he's there. Ruby also signs Luther up as a fighter in underground ring matches that he bets on.
While at the club one night, Carl, Sissy's husband, gets kicked out and leaves his wallet behind. Luther notices that Vanya is the one who picks up Carl from the club and uses his ID to try and find his sister. After finding out that Allison is married, Luther is left heartbroken and purposefully loses a match, causing Jack to fire Luther. After the events in the second season, Luther tries to call Jack at his club. However, Jack doesn't pick up and instead grabs a nearby gun after hearing that Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested for killing President Kennedy.
What happened to Jack Ruby in real life?
The finale of the series seems to hint at the events that happened after President Kennedy's death. According to History, As Lee Harvey Oswald, who killed President, was being transferred and was walking toward the vehicle that would take him to prison, Ruby came and shot him with various police and reporters around. He was then taken into police custody. Oswald died several hours later and Ruby was convicted of his murder and given a death sentence. After appealing, he was granted a re-trail, however, he died of pulmonary embolism from lung cancer before it started.
