Italy shines in track and field, Team USA adds to medal count in swimming and women's gymnastics | What You Missed
With Tokyo's Olympic Stadium teeming with spirit, Team Italy's Lamont Marcell Jacobs set a personal best to win the men's 100-meter final, while fellow countryman Gianmarco Tamberi and Qatar's Mutaz Essa Barshim decided to share the men's high jump gold in a beautiful display of sportsmanship. Team USA also added to their medal count with more swimming golds from Caeleb Dressel and Bobby Finke, and solid performances in women's gymnastics by MyKayla Skinner and Suni Lee.

- Welcome back to Beyond Gold, where we catch you up on all of the news you might have missed from the 2020 Summer Olympics. And while you were probably sleeping, Tokyo was ablaze with outstanding competition. We'll start in the pool. In what has become a phenomenal pattern, Caeleb Dressel won another gold and broke another record. While finishing up his run in Tokyo, Dressel won the 50-meter freestyle with an Olympic record time of 21.07 seconds before returning to the pool to swim the butterfly portion of the men's 4 by 100 meter medley to help Team USA win another gold. He leaves the 2020 summer games with five gold medals.
Bobby Finke also added to the gold count, picking up his second gold of Tokyo 2020, winning the men's 1,500-meter freestyle, while Team USA picked up a silver in the women's 4 by 100 meter medley relay, finishing behind Australia, who set an Olympic record in the win. Onto the Ariake Gymnastic Center for the women's vault finals, where, in the absence of Simone Biles, MyKayla Skinner took full advantage of the opportunity to earn silver in the event. She finished behind Brazil's Rebeca Andrade, who became the first Brazilian gymnast to win gold, and ahead of Korea's Yeo Seo-jeong, who won bronze.
In the women's uneven bars, Suni Lee, still reeling from her win in the all-around event, added to her medal collection with the bronze. But it was Nina Derwael who won gold to give Belgium their first-ever Olympic medal in women's artistic gymnastics, while the ROC's Anastasiia Iliankova took silver. Now, let's go over to track and field, where Tokyo's Olympic stadium was teeming with spirit. We'll start with team USA'S Raven Saunders, who came out wearing a hulk mask in a nod to her alter ego and picked up the silver with an inspiring performance in the women's shot put final. China's Gong Lijiao won gold, and Valerie Adams of New Zealand took bronze.
In the women's triple jump, it was Venezuela's Yulimar Rojas who absolutely dazzled with a world record jump of 15.67 meters to capture the gold. And in a beautiful display of sportsmanship in the men's high jump finals, Qatar's Mutaz Essa Barshim and Italy's Gianmarco Tamberi agreed to share the gold instead of jumping it off in the wake of a tightly contested event. Wrapping things up, we'll move over to the men's 100 meter final, where Italy's Lamont Marcell Jacobs shocked the world with a gold medal win. His brilliant performance was a personal best as it was for team USA'S Fred Kerley, who won the silver and for Canada's Andre De Grasse, who took bronze.
With so much incredible action going on, let's take a look at the medal count standings. Here, we see Team USA has moved into second place behind China in gold medals, while recent performances have given the Americans some breathing room in the total medal count.
