Italian medical worker in Kabul: 'People are worried'

“We admitted eight of them because they were in a critical condition. At present, we are only accepting patients with life threatening conditions,” Alberto Zanin said.

Zanin said three of them had come from the airport. Nine people were dead on arrival at the hospital, four of whom came directly from the airport.

“Out in the city, there is much less traffic, far fewer people out and about. Close to our home, there is a Taliban checkpoint which is stopping and checking people. They are armed. But no injured have been arriving from this place," Zanin said.

"We heard lots of gun fire during the night, but no explosions. But a lot of Kalashnikov fire around our district, near our home. People are worried,” he said.
