Israeli police disperse, detain protesters on highway

STORY: Scuffles broke out after the protest that was attended by tens of thousands of people against the plans by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's nationalist-religious government to introduce curbs on the judiciary, which critics see as an existential threat to democracy.

Protesters marched to the main highway in Tel Aviv and blocked it for a short while until Israeli police dispersed them.

Drone footage showed the massive gathering that's been growing by the week, coming two days ahead of the opening of the Knesset parliamentary summer session and two days after the largest right-wing demonstration in Jerusalem.
