One person was killed and three wounded in Tel Aviv, Israel, late on Thursday, March 9, in a shooting incident, Israeli police said.

On Thursday night, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called it a “serious attack” and offered condolences to the victims, while Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai called on protesters and Tel Aviv residents to go home, local media reported.

Earlier on Thursday, thousands of protesters gathered in the Israeli capital in response to a government plan to overhaul the country’s judicial system.

Because of the protests, and at the request of Israeli officials, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin changed the schedule of his trip to Israel on March 9, Haaretz said.
