Israeli Air Force Dedicates Independence Day Flyover to Medical Staff Fighting COVID-19

In a salute to health care staff working on the front lines against COVID-19, the Israeli Air Force (IAF) performed flyovers above hospitals across the country as part of the nation’s Independence Day celebrations on April 29.

The IAF routinely carry out flyovers as part of the annual celebrations, though this year the performance was dedicated to those working to combat the pandemic.

This video shows the IAF flying Beechcraft T-6 Texan II planes over Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov) in central Tel Aviv.

In a statement released online, the commander of the Aerobatic Team, Major T, said, “This year’s flyover is drastically different than past years. The reason for that is clear – we all sense the spread of coronavirus in Israel and around the world. Our aircraft will fly over Israeli hospitals in salute to the medical crews who work very hard to take care of patients and for this country to go back to normal.”

As of April 28, there have been 15,782 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Israel, and 212 deaths, according to the country’s Ministry of Health. Credit: Ido Daniel via Storyful
